CORRUPTION

In Genesis 3 we see the story shift. We see humanity being tricked into believing a lie. Following this lie causes the first humans to lose their trust in God and begin to turn away from God and turn to themselves and the world to start answering the questions of life, identity, purpose, and heart. The moment they chose to turn away from God was the moment that shame, pain, hurt, injustice, hardships, pride, and all evil began to come into the world. This is called sin. We decided to take the lead, but we were blind and wandered into so much harm and confusion. We lead God's Earth astray. WE BECAME SELFISH AND SELF-SEEKING, EVEN WHEN DOING GOOD TO OTHERS, DEEP DOWN WE REALLY DID IT FOR OURSELVES. If we sought morality or religion we did it to gain blessing for ourselves, we were never interested in God. We seek after pleasure but we are still found wanting more, something deeper, something that nothing in this world could give us. What we learned is that no amount of education, wealth, power, comfort, religious duty, self- determination, or abundance could ever change our heart's propensity to sin. Since birth, we no longer know who God is, who we are, or what is the nature and purpose of life. When we try to answer these questions we are left with infinite possibilities but no answers. (Genesis 3, Isaiah 59, Romans 1, Ephesians 2)

Q. Does God feel impossibly far away?

CORRUPTION BIG IDEA: Through the Biblical story we have a context for understanding why the world is how it is and why our hearts yearn for something more. This corruption begins to give us hope because it begins to show us that in identifying the problem and the root we can begin to look for the solution.
